FAQs

Common questions.

Is fire extinguisher servicing a legal requirement?

Yes. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires all fire safety equipment to be maintained in efficient working order. For extinguishers that means an annual basic service under BS 5306-3, carried out by a competent person.

How often should our fire alarm be serviced?

BS 5839-1 recommends servicing at least every six months for most commercial systems. We build a schedule around your system type and risk assessment, and provide guidance on the weekly test for your own team too.

What testing does emergency lighting need?

BS 5266-1 requires a brief monthly function test and a full-duration (usually 3-hour) test every year, all recorded in a logbook. We carry out the annual test, supply the logbook and can guide your team through the monthly checks.

Can you take over servicing from another provider?

Yes - we regularly take over sites mid-cycle. We'll audit what's on site on our first visit, flag anything the previous provider missed and build a fresh asset register at no extra cost.

How often do fire doors need inspecting?

Best practice - and for many residential buildings, regulation - is at least every six months, with quarterly checks for flat entrance doors in buildings over 11m. We'll recommend the right frequency for your premises.

Do I legally need a fire risk assessment?

Yes - if you're responsible for a non-domestic premises, or the common parts of a block of flats, the Fire Safety Order requires a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, kept under review. If you employ five or more people it must be recorded in writing.

Do you install CCTV as well as fire protection?

Yes. We design, install and maintain Hikvision HD and IP CCTV systems for commercial premises - often alongside a fire protection contract, so one visit covers both.
